Substitute Ice Scrapers

A scratched windshield caused by using a metal object to remove ice.

So the ice has arrived and you don’t have an ice scraper. Here is a list of items that may work, while eliminating the possibility of scratches.

• Credit Card
• Driver’s License
• CD Case
• A Plastic Jar Lid (Peanut Butter, Mayo,etc.)
• Plastic Kitchen Spatula
• Plastic Putty Knife

Also try table salt to loosen or melt the ice

NEVER: Use hot water or other liquid; it can instantly crack windshields & shatter auto glass.

NEVER: Use a blow or propane torch.

NEVER: Use anything to beat or chop the ice, axe,  hammer, mallet, baseball bat, etc.

Yes, we know of an individual that totaled a car clearing ice with a baseball bat.

NEVER: Use anything metal or glass to remove ice & snow as they will scratch auto glass. These include:

• Glass Bottles
• Ice Pick
• Keys
• Knives (pocket, putty, etc.)
• Pop Cans
• Screw Drivers
• Shovel
  

Windshield treatments like Rain-X, Aquapel,etc. Will ease ice and snow removal. Note: These must be applied in temperatures above 50.
